I'm 49 years old and while I've lived here in Phoenix for the past 19 years, I was born in San Francisco and lived much of my life in the SF Bay Area.
I'm an average kind of guy. I wouldn't consider myself to be a "catch" by any means, but I'm a fairly likable guy and always enjoy having friends. I'm reasonably intelligent (actually I scored rather nicely on my IQ test) and have a natural talent when it comes to music. I guess it's no wonder that I immersed myself in music during high school almost at the expense of my required academic classes!!!
I've
been gay all of my life, although I
didn't come out of the
closet until later on in life. I tried for years throughout high school
to deal with the awful feelings I had, justifying them as just feelings
of friendship, when in reality I simply had strong feelings of
attraction
towards other guys my age. Finally, after much soul searching I finally
came to terms with who I am as a gay man. It wasn't an easy road, but
hey,
I made it and I'm better off for it!!!
Well
by now you're probably wondering, so what about the socks??? Fair
enough...
After all, this is a sock website and with the ID "azsocks"
it's probably clear that this really is about socks, or more
specifically,
white socks. Well let me start off by saying that it is without a
doubt,
a fetish, at least that's how it started off. There is something about
white socks which really "gets me going." I think guys wearing jeans
with white socks are sexy, and I always enjoy it when I get the
EXTREMELY
rare pleasure of seeing another guy walking around in his socks. Now
previous
readers of this website have heard me refer to my enjoyment of walking
around in socks as being a fetish. In the beginning I would say that it
probably was. Now it's more.
I
had a dialogue with another sock guy on the Internet some years back
and he was commenting on my pictures. He mentioned as to how he
could
see that even though the pictures were posed, there was still something
very "genuine" about how I appeared, how the pictures of me outside in
my socks didn't seem "forced." I had mentioned that going about my
business
throughout the day without any shoes on is just the way I choose to be.
Some people would say it's about showing off my socks. I've been
accused
of being a narcissist more than once and this website would seem to
suggest
that, but that's not the real reason, even though I do get a kick when
others enjoy seeing me in my socks. For me it's about living my life in
my white socks. It's practically become an expression of who I am as an
individual. Do I enjoy walking in my socks? Yes. Does it turn me on
when
I go to different places and run my errands in my socks? Absolutely! Is
it just a fetish? No. It has become a lifestyle.
Why
do I call it a lifestyle? Because it can range anywhere from walking
around
the office at where I work in socks to driving to the grocery store and
doing my grocery shopping in my white socks. Like I said, it's a
lifestyle.
When people ask me if I ever wear shoes I tell them that my basic rule
is that I will only wear shoes if I absolutely must, otherwise I pretty
much do everything throughout the day in my white socks. This of course
then begs the next question, which is do I ever wear dark socks? Only
when
the situation calls for it. I can find certain brand of dark socks
enjoyable,
but my first love will always be white cotton crew or OTC (over the
calf)
socks.
Now
I don't mind saying that for the LONGEST time I was totally embarrassed
by this. I kept thinking that I was the only person around who had
these
feelings towards white socks, that I was a freak, that there was
something
wrong with me, that I was dirty... wait a minute... Hey that's the same
garbage I told myself when I was just trying to deal with being gay!!!!
Well you would think that after accepting myself as gay that dealing
with
a burgeoning sock fetish would be easy. Well no it wasn't. I had to go
through the same exploration and understanding with it as I did with
being
gay. What did help was to discover
that I wasn't the only gay guy in the world who felt this way, that
there
are actually quite a large number of guys just like me. Of course
having
the Internet at my disposal helped me to find these other guys, and
then
through the course of events, along with the help of my husband, I
slowly
began to accept myself as a white sock lover. I've come to understand
that
it's simply a part of who I am, which is no different than being gay is
a part of who I am. Just as there are people who truly feel comfortable
and natural wearing no clothes on (i.e. nudists), I feel most
comfortable
when I'm wearing a t-shirt (or flannel if the weather is cold), jeans
and
white socks, both indoors and outdoors. I live my life in my
jeans
and my white socks. Like I said, it's a lifestyle!
The biggest question I get is "when did you know you
were
into socks?" Well let me start off by saying that before I was into
socks,
I was SO into barefeet (and still am). I always had a fascination with
guys walking outside barefoot, but it wasn't until I was about 11 years
old that I developed a "sexual fascination" with barefeet. Not just the
feet mind you, but the whole idea of being barefoot outside really gave
me a charge. However four separate events were to occur which would
change
that and turn
me into the white sock lover that
I am today. First, I was walking to a friend's house (I had shoes on)
one
summer afternoon and noticed that some people across the street were
relaxing
in
front of their house, and one of the men had his shoes off. Now I had
seen
this man (mid 30's) in his barefeet (He had some of the most beautiful
barefeet and soles I had ever seen!) walk around many times but this
was the first
time I had seen him in white socks. He was sitting on his driveway
against the back of his car with his legs stretched out in front of
him. The soles of his white socks were slightly dirty, just
enough to show the foot print. I kept stealing glances at his soles as
I was walking down the street. I found it oddly fascinating.
The
second event was actually a commercial for a laundry detergent. In the
commercial two men were playing tennis and they both had their shoes
off!
The camera would do close-ups of their blackened soles as they were
playing
tennis, and I found myself just staring at the TV screen. It
was
the most amazing commercial I had ever seen!!!
The third event happened several months later. There
was
a kid (about my age) who lived next door to me. He was an avid soccer
player,
and had what I felt were among the sexiest barefeet I had ever seen.
Well
one day he was playing soccer in his front lawn (the grass was quite
wet)
with some friends and he was playing in his white socks! Now, for those
of you who have never walked
around
in wet, white socks, let me tell
you that getting the socks wet tend to
make them "flop around" quite a bit. Well, being that his socks were
not
only wet, but that he was also running around on his lawn, made his
socks
very loose off of his feet. Now I was in my bedroom (which lucky for me
had a beautiful vantage point of this wonderful sock activity taking
place
just next door) and was mesmerized by the nature of his white socks.
Then
he had to chase the soccer ball across the street. As he crossed the
street
his wet sock soles just picked up all sorts of dirt and made his soles
totally black. Then, just as he was about to pick up the soccer ball,
he
stopped dead in his tracks, lifted his right sock sole (which faced me
perfectly) to
remove
a small pebble stuck on his foot. What I saw was absolutely amazing!!!
I had never seen white sock soles so dirty from playing around on wet
grass.
It totally blew me away!!! He then came back and actually took his
socks
off to play some game of tag in his barefeet. Now as I said before, I
do love barefeet and his are stunning! After playing around in his
barefeet for a
time he took his filthy socks and actually put them back on to play
more
soccer! That was when I first thought that there might actually be
something
to these white socks!!!
The
fourth event happened towards the end of my 7th grade year. We had an
early
morning P.E. class and we were playing softball. One of my classmates
(who
I had a huge crush on) was wearing baseball cleats. I
had
noticed
that his socks were rather old because the elastic on the cuff of the
socks
was so worn out that they just fell around his ankles. As we were about
to walk back to the locker room this classmate walked ahead of me (on
the
very wet grass again) and was stunned to see that he had removed his
cleats
and was walking in these old worn socks!!! Now, not only
did
his socks flop around because the grass was
wet, but because the
elastic
on the sock cuff was gone it caused the cuff of his socks to fall right
to where his ankles were and the toes of the socks were flopping a good
three inches in front of his feet!!!! What sealed this entire ordeal
for
me was that he was taking pretty big steps which allowed me to get a
really
good look at the soles and I could see his sock soles actually get
wetter
and dirtier with every step! From that moment on I have had quite the
love
affair with white socks! Now I still am very much into
barefeet.
I love the look and "feel" (Just have a guy rub his socks/barefeet
against
my socks/barefeet and watch what happens to me!) of a well shaped foot
and I really enjoy going in barefeet whenever the occasion allows, but
my first love is now, and will always be, white socks!!!
The
other big question that I get is, do you actually work in your socks?
Well,
yes I do. I work in a very casual office environment and sit away from
most of my co-workers so I can pretty much do what I want, however
anytime we have any corporate managers come through our office (which
unfortunately happens several times a year which can last a week or
two) then the shoes (I usually wear
some
Sketchers boots) need to be worn. However, once I'm out the door the
boots
come off and I'm in my socks heading for the car to drive home and
that's
usually the last time I'll wear those boots for the remainder of the
day.
Does anybody say anything to me at work during those
times
when I don't have my boots on? No, and again that's probably due to the
fact
that I'm left alone in my part of the office, so whenever
there
aren't any corporate managers around I'm allowed to pretty much walk
around
in socks whenever I feel like it. Whatever the reason, I'm a very lucky
guy in that I can pretty much go anywhere I want and do so in my white
socks.
Without
a doubt the greatest fun I have is being able to enjoy the great
outdoors
without any shoes on. Why? Again I have to go back and say that this
feel
perfectly natural for me. For me it IS liberating. I enjoy the
opportunity
to go on outings and have my shoes off and just feel the ground beneath
my white socks. Now the one puzzler is that I appear to be the only
outdoor
white sock walker here in Phoenix. I would have thought that there
would
be more people like me given the incredible climate we have here,
especially
in the autumn through springs months. However I have yet to see another
outdoor sock walker in all my activities. I am hopeful that one day
I'll
become friends (No relationships please. I'm already happily in one!)
with
another guy who enjoys sock walking as much as I do who will go on the
occasional outing with me.
Now
oddly enough, the second most asked question I get is, "Do you actually
play guitar and perform at a church in your socks?" Well the answer is
most definitely YES! Now I'm sure that everybody thinks I play the
guitar
in my socks for the same reason that I would do anything else with my
shoes
off. Well that is only partially true. You see, the truth of the matter
is that when I started performing I
used to have terrible stage fright. It would get so bad that I would
forget
the words I was supposed to sing and forget which piece of music I was
working on. One time I became so nervous that I started playing an
entirely
different song from what the rest of the band was playing. Now that's
stage
fright!!! Oddly enough however, I found that playing with my shoes off
would ease my stage fright so that I was able to perform without any
difficulties.
I guess indulging in my sock fetish in that manner while
performing was
enough at the time to calm my nerves during any musical performance I
was
giving. Now even though I haven't really had that bad a problem with
stage
fright lately I still pretty much continue to
perform music shoeless.
At
the same time though there is now actually
a practical reason for me to
perform and play guitar in my socks. I work with some sound equipment
which
utilizes some tricky foot pedals and switches. If I were to try to use
these pedals and switches with my shoes on I almost always end
up stepping on the wrong switch or trigger the wrong function. I really
found that only when using it shoeless was I able to operate my foot
switches
with the kind of precision that I need, so now I'm actually forced to
play
without shoes on just so I can use all of my special guitar effects. Oh
well... I'm not exactly crying over that situation! Between the way I
resolved
my stage fright to the use of my guitar foot pedals have only helped me
to see that this has indeed evolved from being just a fetish to the
lifestyle
I lead now!!!
Another
activity that I'm really fond of doing is sockdriving. I've been doing
this ever since I got my first car over twenty years ago. There is
something
about the feel of the gas pedal, brake and clutch underneath my socked
feet that I really enjoy. I also think that part of the attraction to
sockdriving
is much like sockwalking, going someplace without shoes on. What the
sockdriving
has done is simply open up the number of places that I can go now and
sockwalk.
I've now had the pleasure of being able
to
sockwalking all over the state of Arizona and even in California. There
is also something quite enjoyable about driving on an Arizona
Interstate
in my socks, stopping off at a rest stop and then going for a walk and
stretching my legs in my socks. Two years ago I even went to Palm
Springs
and
drove there in my socks with no shoes to speak of. When it
came
time to check into a motel I walked into the lobby in my socks,
and
of course, spent the entire time in my socks. I hung out by the pool in
my socks (I didn't go swimming), walked around all of the motel
grounds, and even had breakfast in their recreation room the next
morning in my white socks. No one really seemed to notice until it came
time to leave and I stopped off at a gas station. There were a number
of
people who gave double takes when I went to fill up the car and saw me
in my socks. I
have
to admit that I did find it somewhat amusing at how they would look at
me, but what's most important to me is simply how it feels to go
driving
in my socks. It feels wonderful! Everybody should give it a try!!!
As I previously
mentioned, I don't know any other
people here in Phoenix who are into outdoor sock activities like I am.
I've yet to meet any other
sockwalkers or sockdrivers, but I'm always on the lookout for any
"kindred
spirits." That's why I put this website together.
The
purpose of the website is twofold: to show that
people
can go sockwalking outdoors and "the sky won't
fall," and to inspire
would-be
outdoor sockwalkers to go about outside in their socks since it is
widely
reported that seeing others going outdoors in their socks gives one the
incentive to do likewise, which is why, along with this website, I will
continue to go out in white socks whenever possible. So, if anybody out
there in the Phoenix area ever sees a guy wearing a t-shirt, jeans and
white socks, chances are it'll be me. If it is, I hope you'll come up
and
say hi. But most of all, if there is anybody else who enjoys these
kinds
of sock activities like I do but have been afraid to act on them, I
hope
that seeing me (or just my pics for that matter) will help you to
overcome
any shyness regarding outdoor sock activities. It's lots of fun!!!
Jeroen
in the Netherlands was one of those friends who I drew inspiration
from. He was one of those guys who really
enjoyed walking around
outside in his socks and getting the soles extremely dirty, and lucky
for him he lived in an area that was either in, or near, lots of parks
and wilderness because his outdoor shots really show what outdoor
sockwalking can do.
Jeff
in Indiana (Jeff is NOT my boyfriend. He has a boyfriend named Justin who is also
very much into socks.) is another one of those friends who greatly
affected everything I do. He is arguably my
greatest
influence and inspiration in putting these pictures and website
together.
Not only that, I'm proud to call him and his boyfriend my friends. I
have added their photos
to my Flickr photo album. Just click here
to see photos of Jeff and his boyfriend Justin.).
Another
friend who inspired me in ways I can't describe is David
in New York. We've been friends for so long that I can no longer
remember how exactly we came into contact with each other. If memory
serves we first came into contact with each other through a gay message
board on AOL, back when AOL had gay message boards. The contact was
casual as we mostly talked amongst each other through messages. This
was still in the early days of the Internet so the sharing of photos
had yet to really take off. Then some years later I found a sock
community site through Yahoo (the exact Yahoo site no longer exists) in
which David was the moderator. I saw his photos and started up a
dialogue. It was then that I found out it was the same David I knew
from AOL and a magnificent friendship was born. I didn't have a digital
camera at the time, but David did and he was more than happy to share
his photos with me!!!
That
friendship dates back to the mid 90's and he has supplied our community
a nice sized catalog of photos for us all to enjoy (if you want to see
them just click on either of his photos), and even though David doesn't
do photography much anymore, he's still an avid sockwalker, and in my
mind, one of the original sock superstars I've ever known!!!
Now
I must talk about my friend Kel. This
young man is a truly interesting
character! As I just said, he's young (I would guess mid-twenties) and
is from New Zealand. According to him this is a country where it is not
uncommon to see sockwalking going on. Add to all of this is that he now
lives in China (I don't know where exactly). I first saw a couple of
harmless, indoor photos of him in his socks on the website (at the time
called) Sockstars.
We corresponded a bit and he told me that he was living there as a
student. He liked my photos, but out of fear (something which I could
easily understand) would only go out in his socks at night, usually to
the market around the corner or somewhere near where he lived. Well
Sockstars wasn't a website I frequented so I lost contact with him,
only for us to "bump into" each other again on Flickr.
Kel
and I started corresponding again as I would praise his pictures, not
just for the sexual nature of them (after all they are sock photos),
but also
for their artistic merit. Kel then told me that I was the one who
inspired him to do what he's doing. Well I don't have to tell you how
that made me feel. I was beyond flattered and that's when I knew for
certain that we, as sock/foot people, have become our own community
with an identity of its own. As for Kel himself, not only is he a truly
talented photographer, not only is he a fantastic member of the same
sock walking community that many of us are part of, not only is he
UNBELIEVABLY HANDSOME AND SEXY, but he is a truly good person. He has a
very sweet spirit about him, and knowing that just makes his photos
even that much more appealing. He is a wonderful young man and I'm
deeply honored to call him friend!!!
Now
lastly, my friend Jordan,
who in addition to having had his own website is
probably the single NICEST guy I've ever had the chance to get to know.
Not only does he take some of the HOTTEST sock pics I've seen, but he
has a smile that could charm anyone!!!
He
used to have his own website, but has recently taken it down. That was
unfortunate at the time as he's
the consummate sock/footman! However, we are all in luck because Jordan
decided to join Facebook
in August of 2010, and he has blessed us all by sharing his wealth of
sock and barefoot photos there! If you're tastes are more in line with
dress socks or sheers then
Jordan is
your man. Also, of all the sock/foot guys that I've met on the
Internet, no one has feet as sexy as this guy!!! They are unbelievably
amazing! I do have just a few other photos of him so if you get the
chance, take a look at some of his other
pics. Just click on any of his photos you see here and they'll take you
to my small collection. You'll discover that not only does he have
GORGEOUS socks and
feet, but he is one unbelievably sexy man!!! He's one of the greatest
guys you can have the pleasure of knowing and even though I have never
met him face to face (although I hope I will someday), I can say that
I'm unbelievably blessed to have Jordan, not just as a friend, but as a
close friend.
Now I'm sure some of you are wondering why I'm gushing so
much over this guy. Well, to be perfectly honest there is something of a mutual admiration society going in between
me and Jordan. Some years ago we started writing to each other only to
find out that he was
someone that I had already corresponded with in the past. I didn't
recognize him because he used
a different alias at the time. Once he shared that with me we started
talking to each other like old friends from childhood. I continued to
mention how much I really loved his pictures (and I mean LOVE) when he
shared that he had been admirer of mine for a very long time. Not only
that, but I was something of an inspiration for him in his Internet
endeavours regarding his own website and pictures. The conversations
since then have become more personal and out of respect for Jordan they
will not be shared here. However, one thing is certain. I am truly a
blessed man because of people like Jordan, Jeff,
Jeroen, David,
Ricky,
and so many others that I can't even mention. If you're among the many
that I've neglected to mention, please accept my apologies. In this
community I have found so many friends that trying to keep track of all
of them, let alone remember everyone's name is an overwhelming task.
Besides, if I tried to list all the wonderful people that I've come to
know I don't think I would ever get this website finished! I've
appreciated
the fact that we have all had a strong common interest to bring us all
together, and I'm grateful that I can also count you all as friends.
From
the bottom of my heart, thank you!!!
There is one final person I want to mention. My
husband Keith.
He IS my husband as we are legally married in the state
of California. We did have a Holy Union (which I thought of as a
marriage ceremony even if the government and the "not so right" wing
Christians say otherwise) which was held at the church we attended at
that time. We exchanged rings,
exchanged vows, and even had a wedding cake! As far as I was concerned
he was my husband then, and now that we had a marriage ceremony in
California he's my LEGAL husband now and there's nothing that anyone
can say or do to take that away from us!!! I mention him because of his
wonderful support. He is, by
his own admission, not into socks or feet like I am. However, he is an
extremely understanding and wonderful man and accepts that enjoying
socks, and sockwalking like I do, is not just a part of who I am... It
IS who I am! His support has gone so far as to taking some wonderful
pictures of me when we've been out on trips or on vacations. We could
be at a park or a museum and he'll see something and say, "stand
there," and he'll take a picture of me! That may not seem like a big
deal to many of you, but to me it means everything! This is
the unconditional love and acceptance that he gives to me. It's
difficult
enough to come out as a gay man and find happiness. It's another
thing to come out as a socklover or foot fetishist and to not have
one's own partner/spouse be accepting of it. My husband has been fully
accepting and understanding of who I am and how I choose to live my
life. For me, there is nothing more liberating than to have his love
and support in this.
I
want to finish this up with a request. Some of you may be fine with me
walking in socks while others will not. If you don't approve or even
share
how I feel about sockwalking all I ask is that you accept me for who I
am, just as I'm accepted for being a gay man. My sockwalking harms no
one.
Please, just allow me to walk outside without shoes on and enjoy my
life.
So that's about it. At the bottom of this page
you'll
see a link that leads to my Flickr Photo Album. It contains all of the
pics
you've seen here so far and much more. I do hope to continue to modify
this page occasionally as personal time permits. I also just added
a blog
to this website where I will write down and share any fun sock stories
or adventures. I might even post a new pic or two there. The only thing
is if you do go visit my blog to make sure you have the sound for your
computer turned on. Not only will you possibly like what you read and
see in my blog, but you just might like what you hear as well!
Now I've just uploaded the latest batch of sock
walking photos. These were taken at a memorial park next to our Capitol
here in Phoenix. I went there early in the morning before people
started showing up (too many people can always ruin a photo-op) and got
in some really great pictures where you see my socks get dirtier and
dirtier with each passing picture. Just click here to view
them. They're not on Flickr yet, but will get uploaded fairly soon. For
now these pictures can only be viewed here from this website. You can
also download these pics to keep as part of your own library for now.
Once I move the photos up to Flickr the original large sized pics will
be made unavailable to download, so get them now while you can!!!
So that's it!!! I hope you all have a great life and those of you who enjoy socks find the same amount of fulfillment with them as I have!!!
